GMAX --> 3DS
Submitted by ArgCmdr
Repetitive question, isnt it? Well, in order to do this, you have to get:
+ Tempest, the Quake III Gamepack for GMAX.
Itll let you export GMAX models as .MD3.
+ 3D Exploration.
It used to be freeware before (either that, or download.com had a pirate version
on its server). Dont know now. But this will let you go from MD3 to 3DS or
MAX. You can also convert textures in mass with it when converting models.
First thing to do is, load your GMAX file with Tempest installed. Go to File,
Export, and choose Quake III. Thats the first step.
Now, open 3D Exploration, and find the MD3 file. Right click on it, select
Convert ---> Geometry files... On Convert to select 3D Studio Mesh (3ds),
then rest of options as desired. Click on Convert, and you have your little
nice 3ds file. In 1.8 it works that way, else select the MD3, go to Save As...
and select 3DS (Thanks to MadHQ for the tip)
You can get Tempest here: http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax And 3D Exploration
seems to be trial only now. Lucky me. But look around and youll eventually
find it.
